Danish football star Christian Eriksen could transfer for $18 mln
Christian Eriksen, a 19 year-old Danish football sensation could be valued at 100 million Danish Kroner (around 18 million U.S. dollars ) should he come-up for transfer.
That is the assessment of several observers of the football transfer market, following the Ajax Amsterdam player's sterling performance in an England-Denmark friendly in Copenhagen, on Wednesday.
"I would believe that he now costs close to 100 million Danish Kroner (around 18 million dollars )," said Michael Johansen, a FIFA agent, in comments made to Denmark's Ekstra Bladet newspaper. Johansen expects to see Eriksen playing for the English Premier League in the near future.
"If he can continue to develop himself and deliver similar performances, there will be demand for him," Johansen continued. "When you think about England, it is important to remember that the top clubs can pay the price that Ajax asks for."
Eriksen currently plays as an attacking midfielder for Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, where he started in October 2008. Ajax is said to have paid around 12 million Danish kroner (2.18 million dollars) for Eriksen at the time; a smart investment in a player who could now be worth eight times as much.
Other agents have valued Eriksen at between 60-70 million Danish kroner (10.9-12.7 million dollars), but agree that his transfer value is on the rise and that top Premier League clubs will be keeping a sharp eye on the young player.
The Danish team lost 1-2 to England in Wednesday's encounter, which featured no less than 17 Premier League players. Eriksen made his mark on the game through a brilliant cross shot which was headed in by Daniel Agger to score Denmark's only goal of the match. England last beat a Danish side in Denmark in 1978.
Eriksen made his debut for the Danish national team in March 2010, and was the youngest player in the FIFA World Cup 2010, in South Africa.
